Delta’s just-launched nonstop service between Salt Lake City (SLC) and Lima (LIM) set a new record. Departing December 4, 2025, this is the first direct link between the two cities and a new way to South America. Delta’s move follows the discovery that Lima is the most-demanded South American destination from Salt Lake City, with 23,000 round-trip customers flying the route in the past 12 months. The service, effective until January 25, 2026, will offer more direct access between the region and the rich culture and some of the world’s greatest touristic hotspots in Peru.
New Nonstops to Peru: Game-changing for Salt Lake City
Passenger traveling from Salt Lake City will finally be able to fly direct to the capital of Peru for the first time. The new Delta route will eliminate overnight layovers for travelers and make their trip to Lima, one of the fastest-growing travel hot spots in South America, much more streamlined. But if that dream involves hiking through the ruins of Machu Picchu, eating your way through Peru’s new world-famous gastronomy or wandering the streets of Lima’s historic architecture, a new flight can make that dream come true for more Utahns.
This expansion emphasizes the importance of Salt Lake City’s status as a major Delta Air Lines hub. With it being one of the largest outside its mega-hub in Atlanta, it is enjoying an upswing in route opportunities, thanks to increased flights from the Western side of the States.
Comfort, Coveniences To Be Offered On Delta’s Boeing 767-300ER
The new route will be run by the widebody workhorse of Delta’s long-haul fleet, the Boeing 767-300ER. The seating configuration on this aircraft consists of four classes: business class, premium economy, economy plus and economy. That means travelers can expect a premium ride with all kinds of seating options to choose from.
The Boeing 767-300ER is a trusted mover of Delta’s, whose average age for the type is 29 years. The length of an individual flight will be about 3,704 nautical miles (6,860 km), with coverage time of around seven to eight hours. Impossible for this route not to meet the expectations and demand of the comfort and budget seeking travelers, with this capacity and SA38; its plane that is.
A OneStop US West Connection to Peru
Not only will travelers from other Western U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Las Vegas, Sacramento and Boise, be able to take advantage of this new service, but this new route will also make visiting Salt Lake City more accessible for many. Now those originating from these cities can easily reach Peru with a single connection in Salt Lake City, and it’s easier than ever for customers in the Mountain West to book their adventures to South America. As Delta’s global network of destinations expands, Salt Lake City becomes a gateway to over 90 destinations worldwide.
Delta’s Ongoing Investment in Salt Lake City
Delta’s commitment to its Salt Lake City hub goes much deeper than this new route. The carrier has also been aggressively modernizing the airport’s amenities, including a sprawling new terminal that opened in May and a new state-of-the-art pilot training center. These initiatives underscore Delta’s commitment to base growth in favor of its growth and operations while also creating a more pleasing experience for their employees and customers.
Indeed, this comes after Delta inaugurated direct flights to Seoul Incheon (ICN) less than a month ago in June 2025, the first direct service between Salt Lake City and Asia in 14 years. This speaks volumes on Delta’s belief that demand for international travel flying from the American West will continue to grow.
A Strong Delta Financial Statement Shows Support for Growth
Delta’s financial success is also a factor in the growing route network at the carrier. The airline posted a net profit of $2.1 billion in the second quarter, a 63% increase from the same period a year earlier. As the airlines keep churning out strong revenues with multiple sources of income, they should only be in a better position to add new routes and make additional improvements to service.
The airline’s president, Glen Hauenstein, said demand has held steady and Delta believes the third quarter of 2025 will bring additional improvement. A well-structured business model makes it promising for this airline’s future growth, as it appears that the best is still yet to come for Delta and its customers.
Global Network Expands from Salt Lake City
With this new nonstop service to Lima, Delta is continuing to deepen its roots in the world market, linking people and places together like never before. SALT LAKE CITY – There going to be a lot more chances for travelers in the Western United States to embrace the Olympic spirit. This Lima service is just the start as Delta continues to grow in the region while also providing a state-of-the-art travel experience though our sophisticated fleet.
