Sugar cravings and caffeine fixes? Your metabolism might be raising a red flag. Top US cardiologist explains, ETHealthworld

New Delhi: It’s mid-afternoon. You’re battling a slump, reaching for that second cup of coffee, maybe eyeing the office chocolate stash. You snap at a colleague, blame it on “just a bad day,” and chalk the fatigue up to a busy schedule. But what if your body is trying to tell you something deeper?

Top US cardiologist Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj believes these aren’t just random modern inconveniences—they’re symptoms of something more fundamental going wrong beneath the surface. In a recent Instagram reel that quickly went viral, Dr. Bhojraj addressed a question many of us silently ask: Why am I always craving sugar, running on caffeine, and snapping at the smallest things?

The answer, he says, lies in one overlooked culprit—your metabolism.

When the Body’s Alarm Bells Ring

In the caption accompanying the reel, Dr. Bhojraj wrote candidly: “Because… your metabolism is waving a red flag—and you’ve been trained to ignore it.”

These seemingly minor daily disturbances, he suggests, aren’t just normal stressors or the unavoidable fatigue of adulthood. They could be warning signs from a dysregulated metabolic system.

“When your metabolic system is off balance,” Dr. Bhojraj explained, “your blood sugar rises and falls like a rollercoaster.” It’s this internal instability that causes hormones to scramble in response, leaving the brain stuck in a constant state of perceived threat.

The chain reaction? You feel exhausted, irritable, bloated, inflamed—and often, like you’re spiraling out of control within your own body.

This cascade of symptoms, Dr. Bhojraj insists, isn’t fixed by popping a pill. “Medication might quiet the symptoms, but it’ll never correct the system,” he cautions.

A Hidden Crisis in Plain Sight

Modern life normalizes exhaustion, sugar cravings, and mood swings. The idea that these could be metabolic red flags disrupts how we typically view wellness. Dr. Bhojraj’s insights challenge the conventional approach of masking symptoms rather than healing the body at its core. This isn’t about vanity or temporary fixes; it’s about reclaiming agency over your health. “Your body has been screaming for attention,” he wrote in his post. And many are finally starting to listen.

What Dr. Bhojraj offers is not just a diagnosis—but a reframing. Instead of treating fatigue and cravings as inevitable, he urges people to see them as physiological cues, subtle but urgent cries for systemic healing.
